    About Our Practice

What age should I start bringing my child to the dentist?

As soon as your child gets their first tooth, you can feel free to bring them to our office. This visit is mostly to get them familiar with the environment and sounds associated with the dental office. You should also be brushing regularly at home with non-fluoride toothpaste as soon as the first tooth comes in.

Around two years of age, we recommend starting to make regular checkups for your child. In these visits, your dentist can provide you with recommendations for starting good oral habits and cleaning routines. This is also the appropriate time to perform a general examination to look for any suspicious areas. Baby teeth aren’t built to last, so they are even more susceptible to decay and other problems. We may even polish their teeth to get them familiar with the routine. Between the ages of four and six years old, we will get our first x-rays to check for cavities.

It’s never too early to get a child comfortable with dental care. Giving a child a comfortable, relaxed impression of the dentists will only make it easier on them and us. This is incredibly beneficial if they do need any type of dental treatment later in life. Waiting until a child has a toothache or similar problem can cause them to have dental abscesses or require major treatment. This can be traumatic and may require a pediatric specialist.
